Welcome to the City of Taunton, one of the oldest cities in the country and the seat of Bristol County. Taunton was founded as a town in 1639 and incorporated as a city in 1864. Taunton is known as the "Silver City" for its rich history in the silver industry. The "Christmas City" is another moniker that Taunton proudly wears for our Christmas display at the historic Taunton Green. Taunton is located in the hub of Southeastern Massachusetts, only 40 miles south of Boston, 18 miles east of Providence and a quick drive to Cape Cod. Taunton is proud
to be a business and family friendly community. The Taunton School Department offers a first class education and we are proud of our newly renovated Taunton High School and Field House.
