Septic Loan Program

Financial Assistance is available to all homeowners faced with the need to repair or replace a failed septic system. The City of Taunton in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has funding available in the form of a Betterment Lien for this purpose. The loan is paid back to the City through the first quarter property tax bills. All funds are subject to an interest rate of 5%.

No credit check is required, however, all municipal accounts (water bills, excise taxes, property taxes, etc.) and taxes must be up to date and paid in full. The loan application is reviewed and processed by the Office of Economic and Community Development.

Funds can be used to obtain engineering and design services, septic system repair and replacement, and municipal sewer tie-ins. In order to qualify for this program you must have documented proof that your system has failed. This can be by a Certified Title V inspector or the Board of Health.

Please note; by using these funds, which are subsidized by the MA DEP, you may not be eligible to participate in the tax deduction otherwise allowed for by the State. Please check with your accountant or Tax Preparer for further information.
