New Published FEMA Flood Hazard Maps
A recent study sponsored by FEMA resulted in changes to several flood hazard maps covering the City of Taunton. The study included the Taunton River and its tributaries, and was part of a coastal analysis for the Narragansett Bay watershed. In many cases, the study utilized new hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, refined topographic information, and updated building and infrastructure data. Specifically for the Taunton River, flood data was recalibrated based on the 2010 flooding events. Although the City of Taunton was included in this study, it is my understanding that the main concern and greatest impact of this study involved coastal communities. The study was limited in coverage and many parts of the City were not included. The new flood maps became effective July 16, 2015.
