Starting April 1, 2023 Taunton residents age 65 or older living in a single-family through four-family unit residence that participate in the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) may qualify for the City's Senior Curbside Trash Bag Program and receive free City of Taunton trash bags.
At Tuesday's City Council Meeting, the Mayor and City Council voted to add an additional eligibility option to the City's existing senior program managed by the Department of Public Works (DPW).
Qualifying Taunton residents must be:
- Age 65 or older;
- Reside in a single-family unit, two-family unit, three-family unit, or four-family unit residence (units serviced by the City's curbside collection);
- Participate in the City Assessor's Senior Tax Exemption Program OR
- Participate in the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) OR
- Participate in the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
Interested seniors should fill out the application and submit it with the required documentation to the DPW Office located at 90 Ingell St. This change will not impact seniors already participating in the City's senior program.
