Red Flag Warning in Effect: May 16, 2023

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning through 8 PM today (Tuesday, May 16, 2023) for all of Massachusetts except the Cape and Islands. Southern New England has received a below normal amount of rain over the last several weeks, leading to relatively dry brush. Gusty winds of up to 30 MPH and low relative humidity are expected to develop today, which will lead to an increased risk of brush fire development in the region. Conditions favoring brush fire development will tend to be the most critical between late morning and sundown.
While temperatures on Wednesday will be much cooler than today, even drier conditions are expected to develop with full sunshine and gusty north winds. For that reason, and in coordination with state forestry officials, the Fire Weather Watch issued yesterday remains in effect for portions of Southern New England on Wednesday.
