History Comes Alive at the Old Colony History Museum's Liberty & Union Festival

TAUNTON, MA - The Old Colony History Museum is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of the Liberty & Union Festival, a celebration of history and community. Taking place on Saturday, October 21 on Church Green, this remarkable event promises a day filled with engaging activities, captivating performances, and a vibrant atmosphere that brings history to life.
The Liberty & Union Festival is a cherished tradition that showcases the rich heritage of the Old Colony region and commemorates Taunton’s historical significance of the American Revolution. This year's festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with an exciting lineup of events and attractions for visitors of all ages.
Highlights of the festival include:
  • Living History Encampments: Step back in time as reenactors set up camp and portray various aspects of colonial life. From soldiers to craftsmen, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with these dedicated history enthusiasts and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs of the Revolutionary era. 
  • Historical Demonstrations: Experience firsthand the skills and trades of the past through captivating demonstrations by skilled artisans. From blacksmithing and weaving to woodworking and pottery, these demonstrations provide a unique opportunity to witness the craftsmanship of yesteryear. We’ll also hold a “Colonial Court” performance to deal with the trouble-making Patriots that can be found in Taunton!
  • Musical Performances: Get in the festival spirit with live musical performances from a variety of groups. The Unlikely Strummers, Taunton City Band, Taunton Civic Chorus, and local band The Elwhys. We’ll also welcome Dance History Alive and Showcase Dance Productions to get you up on your feet!
  • Children's Activities: Engage the young ones with a variety of interactive and educational activities designed to spark their curiosity about history. From colonial games and crafts to scavenger hunts, there's something for every young history enthusiast to enjoy. Activities are offered free of charge thanks to our community partners which include: Taunton Garden Club, Downtown Taunton Foundation, Taunton Civic Chorus, Smith's Castle, Daughters of the American Revolution, Silver City Dance, Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce, People, Inc., Taunton BSA, The Gouveia Team, The Mayor's Worthy Cause, First Parish Church, New Hope, Inc, Foster MA, Old Colony YMCA, Taunton Federal Credit Union, Pride, Inc., Bristol Community College, Manet Community Health, The Taunton Family Resource Center, Taunton High Interact Club, Bristol County Savings Bank, and The Boston Artistry.
  • Food and Craft Vendors: Savor the flavors of the region with an array of delicious food options from local vendors. Food and drink will be available from The Friendly Fizz, The Cheesy Chicks, Hometown’s Tacos Locos, Taunton High Tiger Den, TamBo’s Kitchen, Hetty Sweets Bakery, and Michelle’s Ah-Mazing Grazing. Additionally, explore a wide selection of unique crafts and products that celebrate the heritage and talent of the Old Colony community from a talented group of crafters and vendors.
The Liberty & Union Festival is a testament to the Old Colony History Museum's commitment to preserving and promoting the region's history. Admission to the Liberty & Union Festival is free, thanks to the generous support of our corporate sponsors and support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Taunton Cultural Council and with planning support from the City of Taunton. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 21st on Church Green in Downtown Taunton.
